Quick thoughts on the book:
Duck and Hippo are back and this time they are celebrating summer with friends and a picnic.
I enjoyed the summer fun and adventure that exudes throughout this book. Joyner's illustrations
are truly reminiscent of an old-fashioned gathering among friends on a carefree, lazy day. Yet, as any good storyteller, London knows that there needs to be a challenge in order for the fun to begin.
Hippo is distressed by not having something to contribute to the picnic, which leads to a long search for blueberries and an eventual picnic by moonlight. By the end of the book, I wanted to have my own midnight picnic with friends. Young readers will laugh at the search Hippo goes on and prepare to have your own picnic foods around for a snack to celebrate the book.
