It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Kathryn at Book Date. Kellee Moye of Unleashing Readers, and Jen Vincent of Teach Mentor Texts decided to give It's Monday! What Are You Reading? a kid lit focus. We encourage everyone who participates to visit at least three of the other kid lit book bloggers that link up and leave comments for them.
For the past couple of weeks, I have been reading through some of the ALA Youth Media Award Winners that I missed along with a few other 2019 titles. This past weekend, I also dived into a stack of new and upcoming releases coming in 2020. Though I have limited this to mostly fiction, I do have plans for a nonfiction version later this week.
Here is what jumped out of my stack recently…
From 2019, books I missed ….
Birdsong by Julie Flett (Greystone Kids, 2019)
Bowwow Powwow by Brenda J. Child, Illustrated by Jonathan Thunder, Translated by Gordon Jourdain (Minnesota Historical Society Press, 2018)
The Phone Booth in Mr. Hirota’s Garden by Heather Smith, Illustrated by Rachel Wada (Orca Books, 2019)
The Key From Spain by Debbie Levy, Illustrated by Sonja Wimmer (Kar-Ben, 2019)
When Aidan Became a Brother by Kyle Lukoff, Illustrated by Kaylani Juanita (Lee & Low, 2019)
Bilal Cooks Daal by Aisha Saeed, Illustrated by Anoosha Syed (Salaam Reads, 2019)

Currently reading with my ears….
Hey, Kiddo by Jarrett J. Krosoczka (Scholastic Audiobooks, 2019) - I know it seems weird to listen to a graphic novel as an audiobook but this was really well done and I enjoyed the full cast.
In case you missed it….
